SUMMARY: Design, fabricate and build tooling & parts from blueprints.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Use tool room shop equipment including CNC and manual machine tools in an efficient, effective, and safe manner.

  • Perform lay-outs and set-ups of projects.

  • Utilize proper use of inspection tools.

  • Machine and fabricate parts from blueprints.

  • Design and build tooling from blueprints .

  • Share tooling maintenance duties with peers in a support effort to manufacturing.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Knowledge of proper machining practices and techniques for close tolerance machining.

  • Knowledge of basic mechanical principles and their application.

  • Understanding of principles and application of shop mathematics and trigonometry.

  • Knowledge of equipment and tooling set-ups.

  • Understanding of material characteristics, their use and methods of processing.

  • Knowledge and understanding of tooling applications.

  • Understanding of sheet metal, machining, welding, and assembly production processes.

  • Understanding of hydraulic, mechanical and pneumatic systems. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Prefer vocational school or high school education in the machine tool trades program supplemented by a formal on-the-job training program in the Tool & Die trade.

  • Two or more years machining experience.

  • Prior experience in tool & die work.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Stand continuously in & around the work area for up to 10 hours per day.
