Essilor of America Surface Supervisor in St. Cloud, Minnesota
We currently have a Surface Supervisor career opportunity at our St. Cloud, MN location.
POSITION PURPOSE :
This position will oversee and direct the activities of surfacing department. This position will be responsible for managing the day to day operations providing a quality product on time and within budget. This position will also have significant responsibilities in the areas of process improvement and project management. The supervisor will support a group of 20+ employees on the 2nd shift, to ensure production goals are met, and standard procedures are documented and followed.
Responsible for the daily production through the surfacing department in the latest cut to soft tool polish technology.
Oversee the processing of surfacing jobs with a wide range of prescription.
Manage projects to improve processes throughout the department for the purpose of improving production and quality levels.
Work with lab management and HR to staff the surfacing department.
Participate in the hiring, orientation and training of new personnel.
Evaluate performance of employees, and discipline employees according to company policy as needed. Train employees on new processes or to improve skills.
Maintain performance records on employees, routinely communicates performance to employees and coaches employees on methods and techniques for improving performance, including reviewing time records.
Schedule employees work time and vacation time.
Maintain department budgets including labor and equipment costs.
Assist in analyzing and recommending the purchase of new equipment for the surfacing department as needed.
Analyze problems that arise and determine actions that will minimize the problems, decrease costs and/or improve yields, recommend changes to Operations Manager and, upon approval, implements those changes.
Assure that all safety standards are maintained in the work area at all times.
Implemenet Lean Six Sigma projects
Perform other duties as required.
Two year degree or equivalent in a related field with proven on the job experience working in a production environment.
Previous optical experience in a lab production environment including surfacing and/or coating knowledge/experience.
Previous experience leading a group of 10 or more employees.
Strong planning, communication and organizing skills a must.
Demonstrated competence in supervisory skills: motivating employees to meet performance goals, strong communication skills, comfortable with coaching and training individuals and teams.
Working knowledge of personal computers; computer skills including use of e-mail, word processing, spreadsheet applications and MS Office applications.
Must be willing to work expanded hours to meet production goals.
