TITLE : Quality Technician

LOCATION : Sauk Rapids, MN

REPORTS TO : Global Quality Manager


The Quality Technician is responsible for conducting candidate material, raw material and work in-process testing, maintaining test records and supporting the general Quality Function.


  • Performs audits on regulatory agency procedures on a timely and ongoing basis.

  • Audits new/existing product designs along with supporting documents to ensure conformance with UL regulatory, internal standards and military specifications. Documents finding and coordinates rework/corrective action with Compliance.

  • Performs physical testing and examination on products to verify compliance with UL Procedures.

  • Edits inspection variation reports, records, dispositions and communicates lot rejections and rework instructions. Determines appropriate distribution of records and maintains tracking system.

  • Assist team in troubleshooting defects, root cause analysis and decision-making regarding quality of parts and products.

  • Provide support to overseas Quality Personnel of regulated product through detailed product evaluation reports of Benchmark/pre-production samples. Research questions and reply directly to overseas locations. Develop and maintain an extensive file of pertinent materials that is accessible for domestic inspections.

  • Provide timely feedback to management regarding quality of parts and processes.

  • Utilize Continuous Improvement tools to drive data-decisions and improvements.

  • Creates or reviews SOP processes within Quality Department and makes appropriate revisions.

  • Interact with local and international regulatory agency representatives. Interaction includes, but is not limited to, certificates of compliance, test method identification/clarification and documentation request.

  • Maintains all test reports and records as they pertain to the subject tests.

  • In SAP receives notification of lot inspection, document discrepancies and records dispositions in the Quality Management System.

  • Performs Audits and label inspections and material testing on UL Approved Components to meet the UL Specifications.

  • Conducts incoming testing and in-process and end item examinations on incoming Inflatable fabric.

  • Interacts with UL Personnel in areas of record audits, buoyancy/dimension exams and product strength testing in the presence of UL Examiners.

  • Performs miscellaneous other assignments with a high degree of urgency and flexibility.


  • A High School diploma or equivalent.

  • Good persuasion skills in the absence of formal authority.

  • Good quantitative, analytical and personal computer abilities.

  • Knowledge and ability to use Outlook, Word, Excel and SAP.

  • Proficient knowledge and use of test equipment, gauges, dial indicators, micrometers, calipers, scales, blueprints, BOMs, Manufacturing Records and Work Instructions.

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, blueprints and procedure manuals. Ability to write reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively with other employees in the organization. Ability to interact and communicate with co-workers on all business-related issues.

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent.


  • Some college or a diploma.
