State of Minnesota Physical Plant Supervisor (Assistant Director of Facilities) in Minnesota

Job Summary

This position exists to provide leadership, guidance and training to the Facilities Department day shift personnel. To direct all activities associated with the building maintenance services and upkeep of the buildings of the plant operations/facilities department in a supervisory position. Assigns reviews and evaluates work performance by employees assigned to Facilities Department.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Knowledge of:

  • Principles of lead work sufficient to plan, direct, monitor and review the work of subordinates in accord with agency policies, procedures, and terms of bargaining agreements.
  • Different types of flooring/floor covering sufficient to determine proper methods of maintenance and appropriate cleaning methods, materials, agents and equipment.
  • Chemical cleaning agents such as ammonia, bleach(s), scouring agents and soaps to select the agent(s), handle and apply, and dispose of safely.
  • Knowledge of plumbing, electrical and mechanical systems and ability to direct licensed and non-licensed personnel in maintenance and repairs of each.
  • Knowledge of building and fire codes and occupational safety and health rules.
  • Considerable knowledge of safety practices, applications and procedures.

Ability to:

  • Conduct efficiency studies and implement corrections or changes to improve operations.
  • Plan, schedule and direct procedures for maintenance and repairs to physical plant.
  • Provide simple oral and written instructions sufficient to ensure that maintenance and trades personnel understand their assignments and complete them.
  • Plan and independently carry out work assignments.
  • Make mechanical repairs to and operate maintenance equipment.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Chief C Boiler License.
  • 2 to 4 years of Commercial Construction Project Management. Preferably in an institution of higher education or public facility of similar complexity.
  • Experience in AutoCAD.
  • Knowledge of building and fire codes, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations, and safety practices and applications.

In accordance with the Minnesota State Colleges & Universities (MnSCU) Vehicle Fleet Safety Program, employees driving on college/university business who use a rental or state vehicle shall be required to conform to MnSCU’s vehicle use criteria and consent to a Motor Vehicle Records check.
