3M is seeking a Pilot Plant Technician for the Film & Materials Resource Division (FMRD) Pilot Plant/ Prototype Services Staffing Group, located in Maplewood, MN. At 3M, you can apply your talent in bold ways that matter. Here, you go.

Job Summary:

Prototype Services is a FMRD pilot plant. Prototype quantities of new materials are made here and new processes are developed and demonstrated in support of new and improved products for many 3M divisions.

This is a Monday-Thursday day shift opportunity, with the exception of periodic overtime to meet customer demands.

This position provides an opportunity to transition from other private, public, government or military environments to a 3M career.

Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Setting up, operating, and maintaining pilot plant equipment utilizing mechanical skills as well as troubleshooting ability.

  • Providing support to process engineers and customers to conduct experiments and manufacturing scale up activity.

  • Maintaining a safe working environment for self, coworkers, and visitors including the ability to wear personal protective equipment.

  • Communicating effectively and professionally inside and outside the organization.

  • Performing QC measurements and analyze data to support both process and product development.

  • Ability to lift pails and move drums.

  • Other duties as assigned

Basic Qualifications:

  • High school diploma/GED or higher from an accredited institution

  • Minimum of one (1) year combined pilot plant and/or laboratory environment experience in a private, public, government or military environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associates/Two Year Technical degree or higher from an accredited institution

  • 3M experience

  • Ability to complete work with little supervision and work well in a team environment

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Willingness to work in environment where a wide range of chemicals are handled

  • Good mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills

  • Self-starter with hands-on approach to problem solving

  • Experience with extruders, weblines and solvent/water based adhesive coating techniques

  • Intermediate computer knowledge (Microsoft Office)

Location: Maplewood, Minnesota

Travel: Is not anticipated
