Fairview Health Services Technical Supervisor in Highland Park, Minnesota

Overview

The Laboratory Technical Supervisor has direct responsibilities for the technical operation of the Mhealth Fairview Maplewood,Oakdale, Tamarack, Woodbury, Midway, and River Falls clinic laboratories. The responsibilities include the supervision of employees in collaboration with laboratory managers and medical directors. The Technical Supervisor assures the provision of accurate testing which best meets the customer expectations in a cost-effective manner.

Responsibilities/Job Description

Provides daily supervision of the laboratory in collaboration with the laboraotry manager and medical director. Directs patient and laboratory workflows as well as provides leadership in team building and conflict management. Promotes open and effective lines of communication within the work group, other departments, medical staff and external sources.

Assumes responsibility and supervision for laboratories. Supervises overall operation and technical activities, directs work flow in the daily operations and provides direction and problem solving skills for laboratory functions. Oversees the performance of method development research, instrument correlation, and method validation. Assures the performance of accurate testing. Performs waived, moderate and/or high complexity testing as defined by CLIA '88. Participates in and/or facilitates system standardizations teams.

Assists in planning for future developments including changes in staffing, workload, computer, space, equipment, and staff education. Collaborates with the manager in the preparation of the annual operating and capital budgets. Assists the manager in resolving budget discrepancies.

Evaluates testing results for accuracy and appropriate intervention. Acts as a laboratory resource for the correlation of data, based on clinical knowledge, technical expertise, and other condition affecting test results. Determines and supervises appropriate action to recheck abnormal, discrepant, or unexpected results. Directly communicates abnormal and critical results to care giver and obtains information from caregivers to resolve reasons for incongruent results (physiologic or methodologic).

Supervises laboratory activities in Laboratory Quality Assurance, Performance Improvement and Laboratory Compliance Programs. Participates and prepares of the laboratories for inspection by accrediting agencies and carries out activities to insure compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements. Develops, implements, or contributes to the development and implementation of quality monitors and performance improvement activities. Assumes overall responsibility for quality control; serves as resource for QC questions and problems.

Orients and mentors individuals and students in routine and complex testing methodology, instrumentation, and information systems. Responsible for monitoring and documenting the progress of the orientation and training. Develops learning plans. Provides informal daily constructive feedback to all staff. Provides formal feedback and goal setting as part of written evaluations and performance reviews. Re-evaluates staff progress toward goals during the course of the year.

Demonstrates ability to provide care or service adjusting approaches to reflect developmental level of population served. Partners with patient/care-giver in care/decision making. Communicates in a respectful manner. Ensures a safe, secure environment. Individualizes plan of care to meet patient needs. Modifies clinical interventions based on population served. Provides patient education based on an assessment of learning needs of patient/care-giver.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s in a related laboratory field including the related lab practicum or equivalent routes as specified in CLIA ’88.

• Possess appropriate HHS approved laboratory certification (ASCP or AMT). HEW certification is also recognized.

• Two years experience as a MLS/MT

• BLS certification

Preferred Qualifications

• Prefer BS in Medical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology

• Three to Five Years as MLS/MT
