Metal Technologies Inc. CMM Operator in Hibbing, Minnesota

General Summary:

Operates and maintains coordinate measuring machine. Designs and verifies all gauges and keeps gauge control system up to date. Will work in tandem with other management level employees to meet customer requirements (internal and external). Complete additional tasks to improve customer relations (internal and external), plant efficiencies, and overall plant profitability as instructed by supervisor.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Organize and monitor daily functions of the Metrology Department.

  • Assists with tooling and gauging as needed

  • Program and operate coordinate measuring machine.

  • Read, balloon, and understand customer blueprint requirements.

  • Process statistical data on CMM reports.

  • Take computer generated dimensional data from the parts and files, perform layouts.

  • Handle all dimensional layouts on castings as needed.

  • Responsible for design, layout and verification of all functional gages.

  • Maintain quality assurance files related to CMM, layouts, tooling, and gages.

  • Maintain a close working relationship with management to ensure compliance with customer’s quality standards.

  • Assist in troubleshooting customer problems.

  • Perform maintenance checks on equipment.

  • Maintains acceptable housekeeping and cleans equipment as needed.

  • Perform pattern wear checks as required by engineering department.

  • Travel required for training and certification.

  • Travel required for customer, vendor and corporate meetings.

Preferred Knowledge and Skills:

  • 1 year calibration experience

  • 1 year layout experience

  • Fluent use and understanding of Microsoft Office software

  • Ability to read and understand blueprints

  • Metal working skills

Working Conditions

  • The CMM Operator will reside in the office and on the production floor. Must be able to adhere to conditions of the plant.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time on their feet 50 % on the production floor or work area.

  • Must be able to move about inside the office and in the plant.

  • Must be able to frequently communicate with employees and other individuals in person and by telephone.

Preferred Education and Experience (will train as needed):

  • 3D Modeling Training Gage R & R Training

  • Microsoft Office MSA & SPC Training

  • CMM Training Ability to adapt to change and problem solve

  • Excellent Communication Skills

  • PC-DMIS Software
