The Impact You’ll Make in this Role The person hired for the Senior Operations Manager will manage the operations and supply chain functions for the Incinerator and Wastewater Treatment Operations at the Cottage Grove, MN facility, and drive to do so in a safe and economic fashion. The factory operates 24 hours per day, 7 days per week in a dynamic and rewarding environment. This role will be responsible for all aspects of operations, including EHS&R, staffing, efficiency and the continual improvement of operations through operational excellence, systemic design and lean principles. The role will also be critical in driving consistency across all policies and procedures within the production and supply chain departments and for making transformational improvements in the day-to-day Incinerator and Wastewater Treatment operations.

  • Operations and Supply Chain Management responsibility of all activities of the Incinerator and Wastewater Treatment areas. Accountable for driving transformational continuous improvement in EHSR, operational and plant engineering efficiencies and supply chain. Coordinates operating activities so that destruction is handled on schedule and within quality and compliance standards.

  • Responsible for coordinating lean initiatives and operational improvements throughout the Incinerator and Wastewater Treatment operations. Works to continuously enforce and improve daily tier processes, daily accountability boards, standard work, visual controls and coaching. Encourages area-wide participation in continuous improvement suggestion activities. Actively participates in relevant corporate lean programs/initiatives.

  • Develops and mentors all levels of the Supply Chain and Operations groups. Drives consistency and accountability in regards to all policies, procedures and expectations throughout the organization. Drives operator engagement throughout the area and encourages problem solving through all levels of the site organization to determine best solutions for complex problems.

  • Ensuring effective labor relations with the Operating Engineers labor union at Cottage Grove.

Your Skills and Expertise

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution

  • Ten (10) years of manufacturing/production experience in a private, public, government, or military environment

  • Five (5) years of manufacturing/engineering management experience

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

  • Knowledge of high temperature incineration and/or wastewater treatment operations

  • Experience in or working knowledge of governmental and regulatory agencies

  • Previous experience in a union environment

  • Lean Six Sigma Black Belt experience

  • Understanding of Shingo principles or principle-based leadership

  • Skills include: Leadership and supervisory skills, effective communications, interpersonal skills, coaching skills, change management, conflict resolution, delegation, goal setting, motivation, emotional intelligence, strategic planning

Travel: Up to 10% domestic
