Job Summary:

The person hired for the position of General Supervisor will direct a team of approximately 6 supervisors providing guidance to 80+ USW production operators supporting manufacturing operations for 3 (Film/Auto/Bubbles) manufacturing operations / divisions spread over 2 buildings on the Cottage Grove Campus. Core responsibilities include driving safety, quality, service, productivity, and employee engagement. The successful candidate will promote a culture of flexibility, collaboration, continuous improvement, and accountability.

Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Directly coaches, supervises, and develops a team of production supervisors and USW production employees. Resolves issues and conflicts related to direct and next level reports and apply performance management tools as needed to ensure compliance with requirements and expectations met.

  • Champion Environmental, Health, and Safety continuous improvement, compliance, and accountability through active visible leadership, inclusive culture, and involvement within the Value Stream.

  • Work with FAB leadership team and support staff members to determine priorities, timetables and assign resources / tasks to meet the stakeholder needs while providing constructive performance feedback.

  • Coach and drive problem solving in manufacturing operations through operator team inclusion in collaboration with supervisory and support staff to identify and implement best solutions for complex problems and process opportunities.

  • Encourage and support Lean implementation, organizational flexibility, and operational excellence within FAB team and help to drive Value Steam Improvement efforts.

  • Support Quality Management System initiatives and compliance with policies and procedures within FAB organization while holding subordinates accountable.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Possess a bachelor’s degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution

  • Minimum of three (3) years of supervisory experience in a private, public, government or military environment

  • Minimum of five (5) years of manufacturing/production experience in a private, public, government or military environment

  • Experience leading lean manufacturing activities

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Materials Science, Engineering or related discipline from an accredited institution

  • Influence skills to support positive change acceptance within the work team

  • Excellent people skills and ability to coach and collaborate across 3M with multiple key stakeholders

  • Strong communications (oral, written and presentation) and project management skills

  • Proven skills in navigating ambiguity to develop clear and actionable outcomes

Location: Cottage Grove, MN

Travel: May include up to 5% [domestic/international]
