Location: Cold Spring, MN Department: Foundry Supervisor: Rick Spaeth Grade: 500 Job Summary: The Welder is responsible for making repairs and modifications to bronze memorials and a variety of other bronze products to maintain the item s aesthetic qualities. Primary Duties: Repairs and modifies a variety of bronze products due to the natural imperfections of the casting process Fills and repairs holes and gouges Builds up and fills in borders Repairs backgrounds, textures, lettering and emblems Transfers product from the production line to the welding booth by carrying them or using a cart (approximately 95% of work is carried); pieces can weigh over 100 pounds, but most weigh between 10 and 30 pounds Adds or removes various attachments to bronze plaques, such as threaded rod pegs, letters, punctuation, tabs and lugs, etc. Trims and sculpts materials to blend textures Fills holes with solder and solders attachments to bronze plates as needed using a gas torch Maintains the flow of product into the shot blast machine, either by hand or using an overhead vacuum lift Coordinates work orders with products as they leave the shot blast machine Performs cleaning process on scroll boards, ring racks and screw racks by removing them from the paint line and using the wheelabrator Inspects and cleans the screen for the shot blast machine as necessary Checks and changes the gas and oxygen tanks for Trimmers when needed Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor Requirements: General knowledge of welding, TIG welding and solder techniques and skills Possesses ability to exercise patience, displays sustained concentration and endurance in using fine motor skills due to the precise nature of this work Maintains good hand-eye coordination Performs a variety of duties often moving from one task to another Works independently with little or no supervision Excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills, with an emphasis in time management, improving efficiencies and exercising independent judgment to determine work priority and urgency General math skills Reads work orders or production tickets, which may include dimensional drawings Reads a tape measure, imperial and metric Works as a self-motivated team member who adheres to all safety protocols and is willing to cross train as needed Stands regularly Wears personal protective equipment Lifts 50 lbs. regularly Education & Experience: High School Diploma or equivalent and 1 year of TIG welding experience Status: This is a full time hourly position.
