POSITION SUMMARY: The Shipping Lead assists the supervisor to achieve department goals in safety, quality, efficiency and yield. The Lead reports to the department supervisor and assists in the operation of a set of specific processes within the department.This position is designed to be a career path to higher supervisory positions within the company. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned

  • Trains and motivates team members to achieve their maximum quality and productivity performance levels.

  • Directs and monitors the operations of assigned processes. Provides feedback to the supervisor and works with others to plan and implement process improvements.

  • Promotes department and company goodwill through proactive team member communication. Supports and promotes company position on union free status by maintaining open communication and feedback to team members.

  • Schedules people, materials and equipment to most effectively and efficiently utilize departmental resources to achieve the mission of Pilgrim’s. Assists supervisor in determining work assignments and makes changes as necessary to accommodate staffing and production needs.

  • Determine the order in which loads are completed based on the inventory levels, available equipment for outbound orders.

  • Offers feedback for team member performance evaluation to the supervisor

  • Backup all department positions as needed

  • Assists in maintaining the production area for cleanliness in accordance with company SSOP standards

  • Recognizes safety hazards, performs safety audits and assists with accident investigation.

  • Monitors progress against KPI goals and covers in crew meetings

  • Assists in investigation of quality improvements, cost reduction, method improvement, and equipment maintenance.

  • Backup all department positions as needed and supports team members in daily needs specific to the area of responsibility.

  • Assists in enforcing the Pilgrim’s Animal Welfare policy.

  • Performs other duties as assigned

  • Observe & enforce all company personnel, quality, safety, and food safety policies.

  • High School or GED required, 2-year college degree preferred

  • Demonstrated ability to read, write and speak English

  • Demonstrated ability to perform basic math skills including: addition, subtraction, division, multiplication and percentage calculations

  • Ability to pass an assessment test

  • Basic computer skills (e-mail, time & attendance, etc.)

  • Working knowledge of supervisory management practices and principles.

  • Ability to follow verbal and written directions.

  • Working knowledge of distribution operations.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with others in a manner that maintains harmony with co-workers

  • Working knowledge of distribution operations.

  • Valid Pilgrim’s pallet jack and forklift license or ability to obtain a license within 30 days

  • Valid CRP, First Aid Certification and AED or ability to obtain certificate within 6 months

  • Ability to follow both written and verbal directions.

  • Working knowledge of supervisory management practices and principles.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with others in a manner that maintains harmony with co-workers.

  • Ability to perform all positions within the department
