We are looking for experienced Construction Materials Technicians in our Rochester and Burnsville offices.

Position Summary:Under supervision, you will perform sampling and testing of a variety of soils and construction materials in the field and/or in the laboratory; be responsible for explaining and enforcing project specific specifications related to sampling and testing of construction materials; maintain and record logs of daily work and tests performed and time and materials expended. You may also spend time in the field providing inspection of construction operations and evaluation of the contractors work.

Position Responsibilities:• Collects samples of soils and construction materials in the field to measure physical characteristics• Performs a variety of tests on construction materials including soils, aggregates, concrete/mortar/grout, reinforcing steel and asphalt using materials-testing equipment• Read construction documents to determine project details and specifications• Neatly and accurately complete all required paperwork, including daily reports, test reports and timesheets – in a timely manner• Records and reports test results after performing mathematical calculations, making graphical solutions and graphical representations• Communicates orally and in writing with engineers and staff members, agency representatives, contractors and business and property owners• Performs maintenance/cleaning of equipment and calibration and adjustments as needed• Adheres to construction site safety guidelines and promotes a safe working environment• Comfortable using MS Office applications (Word/Excel/Outlook)• Inspection of construction operations• Willingness to cross train in other departments

Position Qualifications:• Have a positive can do attitude• Dependable and trustworthy• Ability to work extended hours outdoors in a variety of weather and site conditions• Available to travel to out of town project sites• Ability to work in team environment as well as independently• Good communications both written and oral with project team• Must possess a valid driver’s license and have a good driving record• Ability to frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds

Minimum Education and Experience:• High School Diploma or GED

Preferred Education and Experience:• A two year technical degree from an accredited school related to civil engineering/construction• Experience in construction materials testing• Construction materials testing related certifications such as ACI, Mn/DOT and ICC

Note: Depending on your assignment, you may be required to drive your own vehicle. You must be able to provide a vehicle suitable for use on construction sites. We will compensate you at the current federal per mile rate for use of your own vehicle for work related activities.
