MDU Resources Group Grading Foreman in Bemidji, Minnesota

Job Summary:

JOB SUMMARY Responsible to safely supervise and coordinate activities of workers engaged in grading, pipe, and base laydown activities. Position requires travel throughout MN and ND.


  • Perform daily equipment, walk around and site inspections to identify and correct any unsafe conditions and keep equipment properly maintained.

  • Plan, organize and execute daily operations with a crew of 5-8 people.

  • Safely and properly supervise and coordinate activities of workers.

  • Mentor and coach operators to ensure they achieve safety and production goals daily.

  • Complete daily timecard, production and diary entries as required using packaged construction software.

  • Communicate trucking needs to dispatch department. Accurately monitor trucking costs.

  • Communicate effectively (verbal, listening, written) and work with difficult people under high stress situations. Self-motivated, team-player with good interpersonal skills; ability to maintain positive customer relations and act courteous/respectful of others.

  • Troubleshoot and problem solve situations/problems (material quality, equipment operation/repair, etc.). Monitor and discuss production problems with co-workers and managers/supervisors.

  • Ensure MSHA, OSHA, EPA, DNR, Lockout/Tagout, safety and environmental regulation compliance.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:


  • Over 2 years up to and including 4 years from post high school, work, military, institutional or vocational environment

  • Minimum 5 year’s experience in heavy civil construction. Emphasis on MnDOT, NDDOT, County and Municipal work.

  • Must have knowledge and experience in the operation of heavy equipment used in road building such as dozers, excavators, motor graders, loader and scrapers.

  • Ability to provide and maintain proper licensure, medical card and acceptable driving record.

  • Positive attitude and ability to take direction is a must.
