SunOpta Quality Assurance Technician I in Alex Minnesota St Facility, Minnesota



To perform necessary test in order to have a quality product and package. Follow written and verbal instructions to insure quality and efficiency standards are being met. Assume responsibility for the Lab area efficiencies, safety, quality and effective communication relevant to shift and plant performance

* *Essential Duties and Responsibilities: * *

  • Coordinate, monitors and checks packages to maximize the quality of products produced.

  • Performs and reviews teardowns

  • Maintain a clean and organized workstation.

  • Assure package integrity and product quality

  • Ph checks on pre-processed and post-processed products

  • Use solids analyzer

  • Communicate lab data with operators and supervisors

  • Perform a variety of quality checks to assure standards are met

  • Troubleshoot and resolve basic to moderate operating difficulties involving area equipment

  • Performs investigations related to product spoilage

  • Performs incubation activities according to standard timelines

  • Calibrates specified quality testing equipment

  • Accurately prepares and maintains all area paperwork

  • Relieve other production team members for breaks and absences as required

Key Accountabilities:


  • Follows all plant safety rules

  • Reports all accidents to the production supervisor

  • Serves an active role in the plant safety program by attending safety meetings, participating in monthly safety inspections and reporting any potential safety hazards to the safety committee or Production Supervisor.


  • Adheres to all Quality Assurance System guidelines__

  • Follows SOP’s to do required tests necessary for checking products prior to processing, after processing, and prior to ship outs

  • Responsible for compliance with the HACCP program

  • Must adhere to and follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s)

  • Responsible for accurate documentation


  • Maintain a clean and organized work area

  • Cooperates with other shifts and the management team in housekeeping endeavors


  • As a member of the Quality team, insures that effective shift communication and teamwork with the other operators occurs each scheduled shift

  • Maintains effective communication with members of the support group

Teamwork and Training

  • Promotes and contributes to the development of teamwork among production team members

  • Assist in coaching and training employees as requested by the management team

Personal Development

  • Continuous improvement of knowledge of the Aseptic batching, processing and filling, and DE process__

High school diploma or equivalent required. College degree or certification preferred.


Candidate must possess a strong working knowledge of aseptic systems, processes and practices. Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing practices is beneficial. Outstanding verbal, written, multi-tasking and presentation skills. Ability to create momentum and foster organizational change. Bilingual in Spanish is beneficial. Must have a working knowledge of MS Word and MS PowerPoint software, and be proficient with MS Excel software. Experience with Ceridian is beneficial.

Knowledge and Skills:

Working knowledge of business, computer and math, preferred. The candidate must be able to work effectively in a team-based environment, set priorities to meet deadlines, handle multiple tasks, and make decisions under pressure.
